Flights have been cancelled again at Sicily’s Catania airport because of volcanic ash from Mount Etna.
Arrivals at the airport were initially suspended until 4pm local time on Monday (14 September), but airport operator SAC later extended the suspension until 10pm local time, adding that departing flights would also not operate.
Flights have now been suspended for a second day, and the airport is currently closed until 2.30pm on Tuesday (15 September).
Ash emissions from Etna have caused disruption throughout the summer, including over five days in August.
The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its advice to say: “Flights are currently affected by ash cloud from Mount Etna. Check with your travel provider or Catania airport before travelling.”
