Improved air links are set to make Belize more accessible to UK travellers in 2027, alongside a series of new luxury hotel openings.
Speaking to Travel Gossip at World Travel Market (WTM) in London this week, Belize Tourism Board Director of Tourism Evan Tillett outlined the developments, as well as plans to support UK agents.
As the only country in Central America with English as its official language, the UK is ‘a natural market’ for Belize, Evan said.
The UK is already Belize’s largest European source market, but air connectivity has ‘always been the Achilles’ heel’, he added.
From 2027, two flight routes will allow UK travellers to reach Belize within a day.
Speaking about the routes, Evan said: “This gives us an opportunity to really put a lot more focus on pushing to the European markets. And of course, the English market will be key.”
Discover Airlines will launch a twice-weekly seasonal service between Frankfurt and Belize City from 16 December 2027. The Lufthansa Group carrier will operate six weekly flights between Frankfurt and San José, Costa Rica, with two of those services continuing to Belize City. The return flight from Belize will operate direct to Frankfurt.
Air Canada will also resume its seasonal Montreal-Belize City service on 6 December this year, operating once a week on Mondays. The route will allow passengers travelling from London Heathrow and regional UK airports to reach Belize within a day, without needing to transit through the US.
Belize is also investing in agent training through its Belize Specialist Programme, which launched this summer. The programme, featuring interactive 30-minute modules, is designed to help agents sell the destination with confidence.
More than 500 UK agents have registered for the training since it launched in August.
The tourism board is also hosting a fam trip for UK agents in December 2026, with further trips planned for 2027.
Among the major hotel developments is the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Caye Chapel, which is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2027. Located around 16 miles off the coast of Belize City, the property will feature 104 oceanfront rooms, overwater bungalows and a spa inspired by the region’s cenotes.
Six Senses Belize is planning a mid-2028 opening on Emerald Caye. The private island resort will include overwater villas, private residences and wellness experiences centred on Belize’s coral reef, the second-largest reef system in the world.
Duna Beach Resort, part of The Belize Collection, is due to open in Hopkins Village on the Caribbean coast in early 2027.
Belize is also set to add to its cultural offering, with a new exhibit opening at the ancient Maya city of Caracol in 2027. The Te K’ab Chaak Tomb Exhibit will display rare artefacts uncovered in 2025 from the burial site of Caracol’s first recorded ruler.
