Brussels flights cancelled due to national strike

Some flights will be grounded at Brussels Airport on Friday (9 October) due to a national strike taking place in the Belgian capital.

The airport said ‘a number’ of flights handled by Alyzia will be cancelled as some of its staff are participating in the industrial action. Local media suggests this figure is 140.

Airlines working with Alyzia, which include Brussels Airlines, will contact passengers directly to inform them about the status of their flight and their options, it said.

No impact is currently expected by flights handled by Aviapartner.

A second strike is also planned for Monday 12 October, but the airport does not anticipate any effect on flights. It warned, however, that disruption to public transport is expected, and advised passengers to plan their journey to and from the airport accordingly.

The UK Foreign Office advised: “Monitor local news and check with your provider regarding potential delays and closures. Always check with your travel operator for the latest updates.”
