United extends Washington DC-Edinburgh flights to ‘almost year-round’

United Airlines is to extend its seasonal service between Edinburgh and Washington DC to almost year-round.

United currently operates a daily service on the route, which had been due to stop at the end of the summer season on 25 October 2025.

The service will now continue five times a week until 5 January 2026, with a brief pause before recommencing on 20 February.

Then, from 29 March next year, flights will revert to daily.

Edinburgh Airport Chief Executive Gordon Dewer said: “This is fantastic news as we see United adding yet more growth at Scotland’s busiest airport.

“Taking this service to almost year-round shows the clear demand for direct connections between Scotland and the USA, and with three routes from Edinburgh Airport, it’s also a huge show of confidence in the airport as United’s base in Scotland.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing United expand its presence during the winter months, and with already strong North American connectivity, we will continue to work on adding even more direct services where possible.”

Meanwhile, Air Transat is reportedly increasing flights between the UK and Toronto for winter 2025/6.

Airline schedule analyst Sean M posted on X to say flights from Manchester will increase from once to twice a week, excluding 18 January to 13 February 2026, and from once to twice a week from Glasgow for Christmas and New Year.

Air Transat said it couldn’t comment until the schedule has been confirmed.
