This week’s French ATC strike suspended, but disruption still likely

A planned strike by French air traffic controllers this week has been suspended following the appointment of the country’s new Prime Minister.

The strike, organised by the SNCTA union, which represents 70% of ATC workers, had been due to take place on Thursday, 18 September, as part of wider industrial action across the country.

The union has now rescheduled strike action for 7-9 October.

However, other strikes and demonstrations are still going ahead on Thursday.

This could include Air France, where unions have urged members to join planned protests, although pilot organisations are not taking part. Three unions in the rail sector have filed strike notices on 18 September. Smaller unions representing ATC workers at French airports may also join the protests.

The French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) will publish its forecast ahead of the action on 18 September, advising airlines of how many flights must be cut, according to Connexion France.

Travellers are being told to check with their airline if they are flying on 18 and 19 September.

Meanwhile, in Spain, strike action at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport caused disruption on Sunday, which is continuing this morning.

Around 800 staff working for the Trablisa security company have begun industrial action after negotiations to improve working conditions failed.
