Qantas profits soar following rise in premium travel

Qantas saw pre-tax profits rise by 11% to AU$1.39 billion in the half year to December, with the airline hailing demand for premium international travel.

International travel across both Qantas and its sister airline Jetstar rose by 5%, generating earnings before interest and tax of AU$497 million.

Demand for premium cabins across its international network also rose, with a 2.5% increase in load factors across its First, Business and Premium Economy cabins.

Premium travel demand on international services will continue to rise even further by the end of Australia’s fiscal year in June, it said.

The Australian carrier will continue to renew its fleet in 2025, with 42 Boeing 737 aircraft to be fitted with new Next Generation cabins that have larger overhead lockers.

Its remaining two A380s will return to service in 2025, with the airline entering the final assembly stage for its A350-1000 ultra long range aircraft in September.
