Sharon Angove recently joined Travelosophers as Training and Development Manager. Travel Gossip found out a bit more about her…
I never travel without… a portable charger and an unreasonable level of optimism for sunshine.
My weakness is… overpacking ‘just in case’ outfits that never leave my suitcase.
The next place I’ll visit is… somewhere with incredible food and a completely different pace of life. We have a family holiday booked for Turkey in the summer but I’m hoping to get away for a long weekend somewhere before then.
The last place I visited was… Turunç, Turkey. A little gem of a place tucked away in a beautiful little bay, a hidden corner of the Muğla region, and our second visit to the area. Our days were filled with swimming, snorkelling and boat trips.
The worst thing I ate or drank abroad was… a spider. On a recent tour in Vietnam and Cambodia (pictured) we visited the spider market where there were all sorts of crispy delicacies in the form of fried insects. Our tour guide bought some and insisted we try a spider’s leg. There is video evidence. I’ll try anything once. And once was definitely enough.
My bucket-list destination is… Japan. For the culture, the contrast, and the cuisine.
The best piece of advice I’ve been given is… say yes first, then figure it out.
If I could eat one meal for the rest of my life it would be… I really like food but something I could never tire of would be fresh pasta with seafood and a glass of red.
When I left school, I wanted to be… a travel journalist. I always knew I wanted to do something that involved seeing the world but I just didn’t know what that looked like yet.
The thing I’m most proud of is… my family, my home and building a career around something I genuinely love.
In my new role, I’ll be… overseeing training and development with a focus on nurturing new talent entering the travel industry. This includes creating and delivering a structured training framework, sharing my knowledge and passion to build confidence, capability and long-term success and developing individuals to grow into the role, succeed and achieve their targets.
What attracted me to the job was… the people and the opportunity to play an important part in the next phase of Travelosophers’ growth.
The first thing I notice about a person when I meet them is… their energy.
If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would… buy a big house, a very big house in the country – and a horse.
