Gold Crest Holidays collapsed owing almost £1m

Gold Crest Holidays owed more than £927,000 when it ceased trading in January this year, with around £107,000 owed to ABTA.

Companies House lists 63 creditors. Disney specialist MagicBreaks, based in London, is owed £62,712,00 and there are several other travel companies on the list. They include Hays Travel Group, which is owed around £13,500; Seaside Travel, owed £5,120; InteleTravel, owed £3,005 and Midcounties Co-op Travel, owed £4,990.

A statement of affairs submitted to Companies House shows the operator had around £156,000 of assets that could be distributed to creditors.

The update follows the appointment of Purnells Insolvency Practitioners Managing Director Chris Parkman as liquidator for Gold Crest Holidays on 19 March.

Gold Crest Holidays, which specialised in coach packages to Disneyland Paris, Paris city breaks, Christmas markets and sporting events, went into voluntary liquidation after it ceased trading. It had been in business for more than 30 years.

A message on the company’s website at the time blamed its decision to close on ‘the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, strategic changes in key partner arrangements that adversely affected our business, and a challenging trading environment with significantly rising costs’.

ABTA declined to comment.
