The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has issued another update for Mexico and is now advising against all but essential travel to the state of Jalisco.
Yesterday, the FCDO issued a travel alert for Jalisco, which includes the resort of Puerto Vallarta and the FIFA World Cup 2026 host city of Guadalajara (pictured), following violence sparked by the killing of a drug cartel boss.
In the update, the FCDO says flights to and from airports in Jalisco are being cancelled or diverted at short notice and it advises travellers to monitor updates.
It says: “If you are currently in Jalisco, minimise movements and follow any local shelter‑in‑place instructions.
“These conditions are significantly affecting access to reliable transport and services, with local shelter‑in‑place instructions in some areas and suspension of certain local transport services reported in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara.
“Flight schedules to and from Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara have also been disrupted, with several airlines cancelling or diverting services at short notice. Check for messages from your airline or tour operator before travelling to the airport and monitor local and international media for updates.”
The FCDO already warns against travel to many parts of Mexico because of drug-related violence.
