A British couple have died in a helicopter crash while travelling to the Greek island of Sifnos for their honeymoon.
Marie Ebert, 30, and Alexander Cromie, 31, were travelling in a private air taxi from Markopoulo, near Athens, when the helicopter crashed as it approached a helipad at around 6pm local time on Monday (17 August).
The couple, who lived in London, and the 55-year-old Greek pilot, Giorgos Raikos, were killed.
CCTV footage revealed the Bell 206 helicopter began rotating erratically in the air before rapidly losing altitude, crashing to the ground and being engulfed in flames, as reported by the Daily Mail.
It crashed in the Tholos area of Sifnos, a popular summer destination in the Cyclades island group.
The pilot had reportedly radioed that he was preparing to land shortly before communication was lost.
Local reports said the helicopter may have suffered a mechanical failure shortly before the crash, although the cause has not been confirmed.
Greek authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
The UK Foreign Office said it was in contact with local authorities and was ready to provide consular support to those affected.
