Queen Mary 2 makes first Panama Canal transit

Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 completed its first transit through the Panama Canal last weekend.

The ship is on a 108-night world cruise and passed through the canal’s new set of locks on Saturday (24 January).

Queen Mary 2 stayed overnight at the Cocoli Mooring Station before continuing its transit on 25 January, passing under the Bridge of Americas.

Following the transit, the ship will visit Fuerte Amador, Panama and Manzanillo, Mexico, before arriving in Los Angeles on 2 February – its first return to Southern California in 17 years.

Here, it will also be reunited with its namesake, Queen Mary, for the first time in 20 years. The former ocean liner is now docked in Long Beach as a floating hotel and tourist attraction.

Cunard’s other planned transits of the Panama Canal are Queen Elizabeth on 24 September 2026,  Queen Anne on 22 January 2027 and Queen Victoria on 10 January 2027.
