Walking holidays specialist HF Holidays has acquired Lee Wood Hotel in Buxton in the Peak District, adding to its portfolio of 16 country houses.
The acquisition of the 40‑bed Georgian hotel is part of the operator’s plans to develop its Peak District walking programme. The hotel is expected to open under the HF Holidays brand in early 2027, following a light refurbishment. HF Members will be given priority access for bookings from summer 2026 ahead of sales opening to the wider public.
The acquisition follows a £4 million investment in HF Holidays’ flagship Shropshire Hills property and the recent reopening and refurbishment of its country house in Snowdonia National Park.
As a result of the purchase of Lee Wood Hotel, HF Holidays is not renewing its lease on Peveril of the Peak, on the southern edge of the national park near Dovedale, but 2026 holidays at the property will go ahead as planned.
HF Holidays CEO Chris Simmonds said: “The acquisition of Lee Wood Hotel gives HF Holidays a permanent base of our own at the heart of the Peak District – a destination that has long been a firm favourite with our members and guests. It is fitting that contracts exchanged in the same month the Peak District celebrates 75 years since it became the UK’s first national park.
“While Peveril of the Peak has been a much‑loved home for HF Holidays for many years, it has always been a leased property. A centrally located base in Buxton will better support our Peak District walking programme and the growing number of guests choosing to travel by public transport.”
