Why Boston is a great year-round destination for your clients

Boston really does offer something for every visitor – from its rich history to top sporting experiences – there’s plenty to keep your clients entertained when taking a trip to the Massachusetts city.

Boston is brimming with culture and is made up of 23 neighbourhoods, each with their own story. From picturesque Beacon Hill with its red-brick homes and picturesque streets, to the bustling downtown area of Chinatown, the third largest in the US or the Seaport District and waterfront with great hotels, shops and bars.

The city’s history is one of the biggest reasons your clients may take a trip there. As the US approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, Boston will be a focal point for commemorations, bringing history to life where the Revolution began.

The great thing about Boston is that it is well worth visiting during any season. With year-round flights from the UK, there’s no excuse not to book your clients a trip across the pond.

How about suggesting a Christmas break to experience the festive markets, outdoor ice-skating rinks and shopping for gifts in boutiques, malls or outlet shops?

Or perhaps spring is more appealing? It’s the time of year when the city comes alive; the flowers are blooming, and with the warmer weather it’s an ideal time walk one of the trails, from the Black Heritage Trail in Beacon Hill to the Freedom Trail, which guides visitors through Boston’s historic neighbourhoods that tell the story of the American Revolution.

It’s also when the Boston Red Sox kick off a new season at historic Fenway Park so be sure to suggest a baseball game to remember.

During the summer months it’s all about getting out to enjoy the city and its waterfront; there’s even a chance to spot whales between May and October. Boston Harbor City Cruises offer whale-watching tours that are guided by knowledgeable naturalists from the New England Aquarium.

No doubt many of your clients will want to visit Boston during the fall. Seeing the changing colours of the foliage and taking crisp autumnal walks through outdoor parks such as Boston Common are a must-do!

What other experiences can your customers have in Boston?

Food is always high on the list when travelling, and Boston’s dining scene reflects its history and diversity. From the Italian eateries of the North End to the innovative spots in the Seaport District, the city offers culinary experiences to suit every taste. Whether your clients are craving fresh seafood, international cuisine, or classic New England fare, they won’t be left hungry.

A visit to Harvard offers a chance to stroll through the iconic university campus. Clients can do a self-guided tour by downloading a guide from the Visit Harvard mobile app. Or, better still, book a free student guided tour via the visitor centre.

Boston is very much a sporting city, and no trip is complete without taking in a stadium tour or a live game  – be that watching baseball at Fenway Park with the Red Sox, experiencing American Football with the New England Patriots or witnessing the Boston Celtics net some hoops in the NBA. For those visiting during ice hockey season (late September/early October to April), watching the Boston Bruins is a must.

Many sports fans will also be focused on the US next year when the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off.  Boston is one of the host cities with seven games set to be played at the Gilette Stadium next June and July.

Next year also sees the return of the Sail Boston event in July, where tall ships, including some vessels from the UK, will gather in the harbour for a  magnificent celebration accompanied by music, food and entertainment around the waterfront.

For those clients who are looking for a bit of adventure, suggest kayaking or canoeing along the Charles River or take a guided cycle tour and ride around the neighbourhoods and must-see sites. For something a little different, they can opt for the cycle boat tour, where guests pedal their way around the river. Or why not take a Boston Hop-on/Hop-off Trolley Tour or Boston Duck Tour?

Boston has something for every shopper – from the high-end stores on Newbury Street and the Prudential Center, to the great deals at Cambridge Side Galleria and Assembly Row Outlets.  Your clients can browse big-name brands in Downtown Crossing, or pick up fun gifts and try local eats at Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market.

For a 360-degree panorama of the city, recommend View Boston. The observation deck at the top of the Prudential Tower features indoor and outdoor decks, interactive exhibits, as well as a rooftop terrace for food and drinks.
