The Foreign Office is urging Brits in central Amsterdam to follow the advice of the local authorities following the stabbing of five people, including foreigners.
It’s also advising them to monitor local media for updates.
Dutch police cordoned off the area, which includes Dam Square, following the stabbing spree yesterday.
An emergency helicopter was employed for the injured, according to the BBC.
A video posted on social media showed a helicopter in front of the Royal Palace in Dam Square and emergency vehicles also inside the cordoned-off area.
A suspect, who was also injured, was arrested and taken to hospital, but the motive remains unclear, say police.
Police are urging anyone with images of the incident to upload them as evidence.
The victims have been identified as a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year old man from the US, a 73-year-old woman from Belgium, a 26-year-old man from Poland, and a 19-year old Dutch woman from Amsterdam.
Local media reports suggest bystanders tackled their assailant to the ground outside a cafe, prior to a police arrest.
