Inside Travel is reassuring agents that it’s safe for their customers to visit Thailand and Cambodia, despite an escalation in the conflict between the two countries.
Eleven Thai civilians and one soldier were killed in the latest clashes over disputed border areas. Another 14 Thais were injured, in three Thai border provinces.
As a result of the escalating conflict, the entire land border between Thailand and Cambodia has been closed.
The latest clash happened close to the ancient Prasat Ta Muen Thom temple, which stands along the border of Thailand’s Surin province and Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province.
There is also fighting in at least five other areas along the Thai border.
However, an Inside Travel spokesperson said the affected area is far from any major tourist destinations. They added: “All customer travel within both Cambodia and Thailand is expected to continue as normal.
“Inside Travel’s highest priority is always customer safety and enjoyment of their trip. Inside Travel’s 24-hour Customer Support team is in contact with partners and customers on the ground to provide reassurance.
“At this stage, both Thailand and Cambodia remain safe to travel in. Inside Travel’s CX [customer service] team continues to monitor the situation with the help of its partners and will be ready to take appropriate action if required.”
Inside Travel has six groups travelling in Thailand and Cambodia at the moment but said there will be more during August.
The Foreign Office last updated its travel advice for Cambodia on 24 June to warn of a temporary suspension of the border crossing with Thailand. It said: “Land borders/crossings between Cambodia and Thailand are temporarily suspended. The line of the international border near the Preah Vihear temple (‘Khaoi Pra Viharn’ in Thai) has been in dispute between Cambodia and Thailand, with occasional clashes between Cambodian and Thai troops.
“There have also been disputes over control of the Ta Moan and Ta Krabey temples, which are close to the Cambodia-Thailand border.
“Take extra care when travelling in this area, and follow the instructions of the local authorities.”
It is not warning against travel to either country.
