Elon Musk’s SpaceX had to abandon launch of its Falcon 9 rocket 35 seconds before blast-off when a cruise ship entered the flightpath hazard area.
The Falcon 9 rocket had been due to lift off into space on Sunday evening from Cape Canaveral but was abandoned seconds before take-off when the coastguard informed mission control that a ship was in the hazard area.
On a livestream of the event, SpaceX commentator Jesse Anderson explained how a cruise ship was approaching the no-go zone, and that the US Coast Guard was in contact with the ship.
SpaceX has not identified the ship, but the Daily Mail reports Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas and MSC Meraviglia were in the area.
It was the fourth day in a row the take-off had been pulled, with earlier launches postponed because of bad weather.
Before the launch, Space X tweeted to say conditions were good and the rocket was ready for take off.
