Royal Caribbean extends Labadee cancellations this summer

Royal Caribbean has extended the suspension of its cruise calls in Labadee, Haiti, until at least August 2025.

The line originally cancelled two planned calls to the private port last month due to continued security concerns, but it is now adjusting itineraries for the next few months.

According to Royal Caribbean Blog, an unofficial fan site, customers sailing in July and August have been sent a letter informing them of the changes.

The letter to guests due to travel on Oasis of the Seas on 20 July, read: “We have been monitoring the evolving situation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and out of an abundance of caution, we’re swapping our visit to Labadee for a Sea Day, an we’ll now visit Nassau, Bahamas, on Day 6 instead.”

It added: “We’re very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause – your safety is our top priority.”

The blog reported guests sailing on Adventure of the Seas on 5 July received a similar email and the ship will also call in Nassau instead.

A sailing on 2 August on Adventure of the Seas has replaced Labadee with a call in Grand Cayman, while an Oasis of the Seas departure on 3 August will now have a call at Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Royal Caribbean first cancelled calls to Labadee in March last year, ‘in an abundance of caution’ over concerns about growing unrest in Haiti and all calls were halted until October 2024.

In March, sister company Celebrity Cruises removed a number of planned calls to the port over the next year.

Haiti remains in a state of emergency and the FCDO advises against all travel due to ‘the volatile security situation’.

Royal Caribbean said: “Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily paused our upcoming visits to Labadee. We have already communicated with guests directly.”
