Customers booked on Marella Discovery 2 cruises throughout April that included stops at Santorini have been told the ship will be calling at Mykonos instead.
The change follows a long period of seismic activity in Santorini in January and February, which led to residents fleeing the island.
Residents have since returned, and the old port, to where large cruise ships ferry passengers to the island by tender, has reopened.
The cable car that transports people from the port up the cliffs to Fira remains closed for maintenance, but this is due to open on 1 April.
In the meantime, visitors arriving at the old port have the option to walk the 580 steps up the cliffside to the town, or travel by donkey.
However, Marella has cancelled its planned stops at Santorini on 12 and 27 April, according to guests booked on those sailing. They said they’d been told in an email they will visit Mykonos instead.
While some guests expressed disappointment in posts on social media – with one or two saying they’d booked the cruise specifically to see Santorini – others said they were pleased with the move to Mykonos.
Celestyal Discovery was one of the first ships to return to Santorini following the series of earthquakes, calling there on 23 March. Other ships due to stop at the island next month include Majestic Princess on 5 April, Star Legend on 6 April, Seven Seas Grandeur on 12 April, Sun Princess on 20 April and Crystal Serenity on 21 April.
Travel Gossip has approached Marella for confirmation of if and when it will resume calls at Santorini.
