Heathrow workers to strike later this month

Hundreds of workers at Heathrow Airport are set to strike in May in a dispute over pay, the Unite union has said.

Roughly 500 Wilson James workers, who provide assistance to passengers with restricted mobility, are threatening to walk out in two sets of three-day strikes. Action will start on 13 May, lasting until 15 May. Workers will walk out again from 20 May until 22 May.

Wilson James workers took to the picket line last month, calling for fair pay, as they’re reportedly paid less than their colleagues at London Gatwick performing the same role.

The 500 workers will now be joined by their managers, who want to secure formal recognition by Wilson James for collective bargaining and to demand fair and equitable pay.

Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham said: “Heathrow and Wilson James are both highly profitable and can more than afford to ensure these workers are offered decent pay deals. Unite is backing Heathrow’s passenger assistance workers 100% as they strike for fair pay.”
