The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Cape Verde to include a warning about limited medical facilities in the West African archipelago.
It also warned that some medicines are in short supply or unavailable on the islands.
The largest hospitals in Cape Verde are in Praia on Santiago and Mindelo and São Vicente. Only smaller medical facilities and clinics are available throughout the rest of the country, said the Foreign Office.
“Medical facilities are particularly limited on the island of Boa Vista,” it added.
It also warned that the island of Brava and Santo Antão don’t have working airports, so medical air evacuation is ‘extremely difficult’.
UK tour operators, including TUI, mainly sell holidays to Sal and Boa Vista in Cape Verde, which is known for offering year-round sunshine.
Easyjet will launch its first flights and package holidays to Sal from London Gatwick on 31 March.
