Strikes by over 220 workers providing assisted travel at Gatwick Airport have been called off after an improved pay offer was accepted.
The Unite members, who work for Wilson James, were due to walk out for eight days earlier this month.
However, the industrial action was later suspended to allow workers to vote on a new pay deal, which has now been ‘overwhelmingly’ accepted.
Under the new deal, workers will now receive a 5% pay rise backdated to April, in addition to a 0.5% uplift to employer contributions to pensions.
In 2027, workers will also see salaries increase in line with Consumer Price Index (CPI) plus 1% or 3.5%, whichever is greater.
Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is a great win for our members at Wilson James, who do an important job helping passengers with disabilities at one of our busiest airports.
“They got this better pay deal by standing together and taking action. It proves the power of a union.”
Workers previously rejected a two-year offer of a 3.4% uplift in 2026 followed by a rise of CPI plus 0.5% next year.
