Nearly half of all UK flights to France have been cancelled today (Friday 4 July), because of a strike by French air traffic controllers.
Aviation analytics firm Cirium said 62 flights from the UK to France have been cancelled so far today, equating to 40% of all services. A further 62 from France to the UK have also been cancelled.
Nearly 30 UK flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport have been cancelled, including services operated by British Airways, easyJet and Air France.
British Airways has cancelled at least three flights from London Heathrow to Paris, easyJet has cancelled services from Manchester, Edinburgh, Southend, Glasgow, Bristol, London Luton and London Gatwick, while Air France services from London Heathrow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport have been grounded.
A spokesperson from Jet2 told Travel Gossip, ‘no cancellations are planned’. However, the airline did warn customers earlier this week that the walkout could lead to some delays.
In a message posted on its website, the airline said flights travelling through French airspace could be affected by the strike until 5 July.
Ryanair alone has cancelled 400 flights across the days of strike action, disrupting more than 70,000 passengers, reports the Independent.
The UK Foreign Office updated its advice on Thursday amid disruption to say: “Check your operator’s advice before travelling, including where you are taking connecting flights.”
Travel Gossip has approached British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair and TUI for comment.
