Air traffic controllers threaten to disrupt summer holidays with two-day strike

French air traffic controllers are planning to walk out on 3 and 4 July, potentially disrupting flights at the start of the summer holiday season.

The action by France’s second-largest ATC union, the UNSA-ICNA, could impact flights over the country as well as those to and from France.

Air traffic controllers accuse the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) of ‘toxic management’ and a ‘failure in project management’.

In a statement, the DGAC admitted to ‘chronic understaffing’ which ‘affect the quality of the service provided to airlines’.

It said a meeting is scheduled with the UNSA-ICNA union to try to avoid strike action.
