Villa Vie Residences has announced it will launch a second ship, Legacy, which is expected to enter service in early 2029.
It has not revealed where it is acquiring the new ship but it said the vessel will be revealed during a second-year anniversary celebration for its first residential cruise ship, Villa Vie Odyssey (pictured).
Odyssey’s own launch was delayed for 17 weeks and postponed more than half a dozen times before finally departing Belfast in October 2024, following technical issues with the ship, which was previously Fred. Olsen’s Braemar.
The announcement of a second ship by Villa Vie Residences comes as Odyssey passes the 85% sold mark for its residences.
Legacy has been designed as a premium sister ship to Odyssey, with cabins around 50% larger, along with expanded dining venues, larger public spaces, enhanced wellness facilities and additional luxury amenities.
Ownership pricing and monthly maintenance fees are expected to average around 30% higher than Odyssey, reflecting the larger residences and ‘elevated’ onboard experience, said Villa Vie.
Founder Mike Petterson said: “When we launched Odyssey, we set out to prove that residential cruising wasn’t just possible—it was sustainable. Two years later, with Odyssey more than 85% sold, we’ve reached an exciting milestone. Legacy is the natural evolution of everything we’ve learned from our residents and operations around the world.”
Villa Vie said many prospective owners had shown interest in Legacy’s larger accommodation but are reluctant to wait almost three years for the new ship to enter service, so it has introduced a new ownership model.
All current and future owners on Villa Vie’s Endless Horizons lifetime residency programme will automatically receive permanent residency rights aboard Legacy when it enters service.
Originally launched at $349,999, Endless Horizons offers permanent residential cruising through a one-time purchase; those rights will now extend across both ships at no additional cost.
Villa Vie has also introduced the Legacy Bridge Programme, allowing prospective residents to move aboard Odyssey immediately rather than waiting until 2029.
To mark Odyssey’s 24 months of continuous operation, only 24 Legacy Bridge positions will be offered, one for each month Odyssey has sailed continuously around the globe. They will be available to the first 24 new ownership purchases completed on or before 30 September 2026.
Participants will receive immediate residency aboard Odyssey, plus the guaranteed right to transition to a comparable residence aboard Legacy at no extra purchase price when the ship launches in 2029.
