NCL opens waterpark on private island in the Bahamas

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has opened its new six-acre Great Tides Waterpark on Great Stirrup Cay, the line’s private island in the Bahamas.

The opening takes place today (4 September) when Norwegian Luna calls to the 270-acre island.

The new waterpark features a 170-foot tidal tower featuring eight slides and 10ft and 15ft cliff jumps at Cliffside Cove. The 800ft Wandering River includes an immersive tunnel and swim-up bar, with Splash Cay offering family attractions including eight mini-slides and a 300-gallon tipping bucket.

The waterpark also adds three food trucks – Low Tide Smoke, Catch of the Cay and Tidal Treats – serving barbecue, seafood and ice cream.

The opening forms part of NCL’s wider investment in Great Stirrup Cay, which also includes the Great Life Lagoon pool area, Splash Harbor family splash pad, adults-only Vibe Shore Club and Silver Cove villas and spa.

Guests can visit Great Stirrup Cay year-round on NCL sailings from New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Tampa, Port Canaveral and Jacksonville.

Waterpark passes can be purchased through guests’ myNCL accounts after booking.
