Saint Lucia produces short films to showcase local voices

The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) has released a series of short films showcasing the island.

Working in collaboration with public figures with strong links or heritage with the island, the six short films were directed by arts journalist and Saint Lucian Cultural Ambassador Brenda Emmanus OBE.

Entitled ‘My Saint Lucia’, the films were shot on the island and feature six contributors including Pepsi Demacque-Crockett, who was one half of pop duo Pepsi & Shirlie and backing singer in the band Wham; Dornalyn Simon who is the island’s only female taxi driver, and Hotel Chocolat CEO, Angus Thirlwell.

Other contributors include jazz singer Christa Bailey, Nigel Mitchel who is the Executive Chef at Ladera Resort, and artist Llewellyn Xavier.

The aim of the series is to celebrate ‘the unique spirit and charm of local perspectives as well as show visitors an alternative side to Saint Lucia beyond the traditional brochures’, SLTA said.

SLTA CEO Louis Lewis said: “Video and short films are increasingly popular online for people making travel decisions. In this first series we introduce you to some remarkable people telling their stories and talking about experiences and places to enjoy in Saint Lucia. You’ll get to know a little bit more about our people and why they love our island to hopefully inspire your next visit.”

The films can be viewed here.
