More than one in four people who are planning to go on holiday this winter are going on a Christmas market break, according to ABTA.
The association said 27% of people going away this winter will visit a Christmas market. Its latest report, Travel Trends for 2025, reveals Christmas breaks are the third most popular type of trip at this time of the year.
Top of the list is city breaks, with 40% of winter holidaymakers choosing this type of holiday, although the number is down from 43% the previous year.
Second is winter-sun holidays, and fourth is trips to see the Northern Lights, popular among 18% of winter travellers, and up from 16% last year.
Director of Communications Graeme Buck said: “One of the biggest travel trends we’re seeing is a desire for unique experiences on holiday, and in particular the magical atmosphere of Christmas market breaks and the natural wonder of the Northern Lights are proving incredibly popular.”
