British Airways has announced it will launch flights to Melbourne via Kuala Lumpur in January, adding a second route to Australia as part of its winter schedule.
The new service will launch on 9 January, ahead of the Australian Open later that month and the Melbourne Grand Prix in March.
Return fares start from £1,110, including taxes, fees and carrier charges.
The route will fly to Melbourne via Kuala Lumpur, giving customers access to Australia’s second-largest city and gateway to attractions including the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians National Park.
The launch is part of British Airways’ winter schedule, which includes increased capacity on 11 popular long-haul destinations including Cape Town, Tokyo, Barbados, Jamaica and San José in Costa Rica.
The airline has also launched flights to Colombo, Sri Lanka, from Gatwick, operating three times a week throughout the winter season, with return fares from £524.
In Europe, the airline is adding flights to Rome, Florence, Gothenburg and Jersey, while increasing services to Cairo by seven flights a week, taking the total to three daily.
Seasonal services include the launch of flights from Gatwick to Rovaniemi in Finland, home to Santa Claus Village. The route will operate twice a week between 4 December and 4 January.
