Why Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach could be the next stop on a Florida fly-drive

Nearly eight in 10 UK travel professionals believe Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach would be a natural addition to a Florida fly-drive itinerary, according to new research carried out by Travel Gossip.

The findings suggest the destination has significant potential as more travellers look beyond Florida’s best-known hotspots in search of authentic experiences, outdoor adventures and slower-paced holidays.

While awareness of Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach was relatively low – with fewer than one in 10 agents saying they were familiar with the destination before taking part in the research – interest grew quickly once they learned more.

More than half of the respondents said they would consider including the destination as part of a wider Florida road trip.

Discovering a different side of Florida

The research, commissioned on behalf of the area’s official DMO, Visit Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach, found agents were interested to hear Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach offers the kind of experiences many Florida visitors are now seeking: relaxed coastal communities, unspoilt beaches, wildlife, boating and easy access to nature.

Rather than competing with Florida’s major resort destinations, Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach complements them, offering clients the chance to experience a quieter, more authentic side of the Sunshine State as part of a multi-centre itinerary.

Fly-drives, beach escapes, wellness breaks and nature-based holidays were all identified by agents as products likely to resonate with today’s Florida visitors, reflecting growing demand for holidays that encourage travellers to slow down and explore more.

Florida’s ‘Flavour Coast’ serves up a winning recipe

Food and drink also emerged as a major selling point.

More than nine in 10 agents said the quality of food and drink influences the destinations they recommend, making Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach’s ‘Flavor Coast’ positioning particularly relevant.

The destination is renowned for its fresh Gulf seafood, locally sourced produce and independent waterfront restaurants – exactly the experiences agents believe appeal most to their clients.

More than four in five respondents selected waterfront dining as the culinary experience most likely to attract visitors, while almost three-quarters highlighted fresh local seafood and seven in 10 chose independent restaurants.

Nature leads the way

Outdoor experiences proved equally compelling.

Almost nine in 10 agents said guided eco-tours would appeal to their clients, underlining growing demand for holidays centred around wildlife and sustainable experiences.

Whether kayaking through mangrove tunnels, spotting dolphins and manatees, exploring protected nature reserves or taking the Babcock Ranch Eco Tour, Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in Florida’s natural environment.

For many travellers, these experiences are becoming the highlight of the holiday rather than simply optional excursions.

Supporting the trade

Several respondents commented that the survey itself had introduced them to a destination they had not previously considered, reinforcing the opportunity for greater trade engagement.

As UK travellers continue to seek authentic experiences, Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach is well placed to become an increasingly popular stop on Florida fly-drive itineraries, giving agents another compelling way to showcase a different side of the Sunshine State.
