Wizz Air becomes first European budget airline to resume Israel flights

Wizz Air resumed flights between the UK and Israel today (28 May), despite the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) continuing to advise against all travel to the country.

The carrier restarted services between London Luton Airport and Tel Aviv today after suspending the route on 28 February following the outbreak of the Iran conflict.

Wizz Air is now the first European low-cost airline to restore flights to Israel since the start of the war.

From 1 September, the carrier will also resume its London Gatwick-Tel Aviv route, operating five flights per week, with tickets already on sale.

The airline said the decision follows the latest update from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and comes after ongoing coordination with international and local authorities, including aviation and security bodies.

Wizz Air said it would continue monitoring developments closely and schedules may be adjusted in line with official guidance.

Chief Commercial Officer Ian Malin said the resumed Tel Aviv services would strengthen its position as ‘Israel’s number one low-cost airline’.

“The safety and security of our passengers and crew remain our top priority, and we have taken a cautious and measured approach to this decision,” he added.

“We look forward to reconnecting with our Israeli passengers and allowing our millions of customers across Europe to experience the amazing culture Israel has to offer.”
