Travellers to the US are being warned that the ongoing federal Government shutdown could affect their trips.
Advantage CEO Julia Lo Bue-Said warned that the shutdown, which started at 4am GMT, is already causing ‘significant disruption in America’.
She added: “Those travelling to the US should be mindful of the impact this may have on their trips. While passport control and the use of ESTAs are currently functioning as normal, tourists will be unable to visit certain museums, National Parks and other federal-run tourist attractions.
“It is therefore essential for travellers to check that attractions they’ve booked will still be open and to ensure they allow plenty of time to travel to US airports to avoid any disappointment.
“As the duration of the government shutdown is yet to be determined, we encourage travellers to monitor for updates and to contact their travel agent for expert advice that will minimise the impact on their travels.”
The shutdown – the first since 2018, when President Trump was last in the White House – has occurred because the Republicans and Democrats can’t agree on Government funding of public services beyond this month.
While essential services – including air traffic control, border protection, law enforcement, immigration and customs enforcement and hospital care will continue, some government services will temporarily cease until further funding has been agreed.
