The Welsh Government will outline plans today to give local councils the power to tax tourists staying overnight.
Further details, including the proposed charges, will be revealed when the law is published.
Ministers have said the tax will be spent on supporting the tourism industry in parts of Wales that attract a lot of visitors.
This could include cleaning beaches to maintaining public toilets and footpaths, with decisions made by individual councils, said the Government.
The Visitor Accommodation Bill, which was first mooted in 2021, will also include a registration scheme for accommodation providers.
However, it will have to be approved by the Senedd, the Devolved Parliament in Wales, and it could take some years before councils are able to introduce any tax.
