Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada has reopened following yesterday’s Delta Air Lines crash, but there a number of ongoing flight cancellations due to crash investigators requiring the closure of two of its five runways.
The CRJ-900 aircraft – being flown by Delta’s regional subsidiary Endeavor Air – flipped upside down on landing at the airport at around 2.15pm local time on Monday.
All 80 people onboard the Delta regional jet survived the crash, but 18 were injured, some seriously. Three of the injured, including a child, were airlifted to hospital trauma units.
The airport was shut down for more than two hours following the accident, but it reopened at around 5pm yesterday.
However, it is warning of ongoing disruption due to investigations into the crash, which are being led by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, assisted by the US National Transportation Safety Board. In a message on its website, the airport advised passengers to check their flight status with their airline.
In a statement, Delta CEO Ed Bastian said: “The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport.
“I want to express my thanks to the many Delta and Endeavor team members and the first responders on site.
“We are working to confirm the details and will share the most current information on news.delta.com as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe.”
Flight 4819 was flying from Minneapolis with 76 passengers and four crew.
