Video: Passengers evacuated after plane catches fire

The US Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an incident that led to passengers being evacuated from a Delta Air Lines plane in Orlando on Monday.

The Delta Air Lines plane, carrying 282 passengers and 12 crew, was leaving Orlando International Airport in Florida for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Atlanta, when smoke appeared from the engine on its right wing as it pushed back from the gate.

Video footage posted online shows smoke and flame rising from the right side of the Airbus A330 before passengers were seen exiting the aircraft.

There are no reports of any injuries or fatalities.

A statement issued by Delta said: “Delta flight crews followed procedures to evacuate the passenger cabin when flames in the tailpipe of one of the aircraft’s two engines were observed.

“We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and apologise for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible.
