The US Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that its ESTA fee will almost double from 30 September.
The cost for Brits for an ESTA, which is obligatory for those who qualify to enter the US without a visa, will rise from US$21 to $40.
An ESTA lasts for two years or until a passport is renewed, whichever is sooner.
The price increase was announced in July as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which added a Treasury General Fund fee of ‘no less than $13’ and increased the ‘operational application fee’ from $4 to $10.
The $17 travel promotion fee portion of the ESTA application has not increased.
If an ESTA is denied, the applicant will be charged the $10 application fee, which is $6 higher than previously.
