US set to almost double ESTA fee for overseas tourists

The US Congress has approved an increase in the visa waiver free, which is likely to take effect before the country co-hosts next year’s FIFA World Cup.

The ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) fee will rise from $21 to $40. An ESTA lasts for two years.

No date for the increase has been confirmed, but the bill approved by Congress will become law once it has been signed by President Donald Trump.

The increase comes as a number of US states, including California, Colorada and Florida are seeing signs of a fall in UK visitor numbers.
