UK tourists to be allowed visa-free travel to China

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has secured a deal for Brits to travel visa-free to China.

The deal, negotiated during the PM’s visit to Beijing this week, will apply to both tourists and business travellers, according to the BBC.

Under the agreement, UK citizens will be able to enter China for up to 30 days without a visa, bringing the UK into line with 50 other countries, including France and Germany.

Currently, a multiple-entry visa, which lasts for two years, costs £130.

No start date has been given for visa-free travel for Brits and the Foreign Office has not yet updated its advice for visits to China, which says: “You must have a visa to visit mainland China.

“You can visit Hainan without a visa if you fly directly from an approved country or transit point. Check the Hainan Authorities website for more information.

“Depending on your travel plans, visa-free transit options are available, including staying in China for up to 10 days. Read the Chinese Embassy’s visa website  or the Chinese National Immigration Administration website for further information.

“Visa requirements for Hong Kong and Macao are different.”
