Turkish police probe death of young Brit on TUI package holiday

TUI said it is providing ‘round the clock’ support to the family of a 20-year-old British man who died after being found fatally injured in a lift shaft while on a family holiday in Turkey.

Tyler Kerry, from Essex, was discovered at 7am local time on Friday at the hotel he was staying at near Lara Beach in Antalya.

The labourer is believed to have been on his first ever family holiday abroad, with his  grandmother Collette and grandfather Ray, who he lived with, his brother and cousins and his girlfriend Molly.

The group of nine was staying at the all-inclusive Trendy Lara resort hotel when the incident took place, according to an ITV report.

Tyler’s great uncle Alex said he was found at the bottom of the lift shaft after staying out the night before to watch Manchester United on TV.

The family told ITV he was wearing just his underwear when he was found, and the rest of his clothes and vape were discovered on other floors of the hotel. His grandmother said there was blood on his vape and the family had seen blood elsewhere in the hotel.

A TUI spokesperson said in a statement: “We’d like to share our sincere condolences to the family of Tyler Kerry who sadly passed away while on holiday in Turkey. We will continue to provide around-the-clock support to Tyler’s family during this difficult time. As there is now a police investigation we are unable to comment further.”

The Foreign Office said it is ‘assisting the family of a British man who has died in Turkey’.

More than £5,000 has been raised in a GoFundMe launched by Tyler’s great uncle to cover his funeral costs.
