TUI UK has contacted more customers who were due to stay at hotels affected by last weekend’s flooding in Lanzarote, to say their bookings have changed.
Three hotels in the resort of Costa Teguise have announced they’ll be closed for longer than expected as a result of flood damage.
The TUI Suneo El Trebol (pictured), which had already been due to close in May for refurbishment, will now not reopen until 1 June, after the planned work has been completed.
Paradisus by Melia Salinas will remain closed up to and including 23 April, while the HD Beach Hotel will be closed up to and including 30 April.
The operator is allowing affected customers to amend their booking to any alternative TUI holiday, fee free.
TUI said: “If the new holiday you book is more expensive, you’ll receive a money saving incentive worth up to 10% of the value of the original holiday. If the new holiday is cheaper, then you’ll be refunded the difference.”
Customers may also cancel and receive a full refund.
TUI added: “While the situation is beyond our control, we appreciate how disappointing this news will be.”
Saturday’s storms prompted a warning by the UK Foreign Office (FCDO) to Brits in Lanzarote over heavy rainfall, particularly in the Costa Teguise, San Bartolomé, and Arrecife areas. The FCDO has updated its advice today (16 April) to say the warning has been removed.
Yesterday, Travel Gossip reported that Jet2holidays has cancelled arrivals at three Lanzarote properties over the next few days.
Other properties in Costa Teguise, including Santa Rosa and Sands Beach, have partially opened, with some areas cordoned off while repairs take place, Canarian Weekly reports.
