Travel disruption warning issued following US strikes on Iran

The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has issued an update for a number of countries in the Middle East, warning of possible travel disruption and short-notice airspace closures, following US strikes on Iran at the weekend.

The updated alert from the FCDO, including for the UAE, Qatar and Oman, reads: “Ongoing hostilities in the region and between Israel and Iran have the potential to deteriorate further, quickly and without warning including since (sic) US military strikes against Iran on 22 June.

“There is a possibility of travel disruption, including short-notice airspace closures, delayed and cancelled flights, and other unanticipated travel impacts.”

As a result of the strikes on Sunday, British Airways was forced to either re-route or suspend flights from the UK to Doha and Dubai. BA has cancelled its 12.50pm departure today (23 June) from London Heathrow to Dubai. Its later flights at 9.30pm and 10.30pm are scheduled to operate as planned.

Its London Heathrow departure to Doha at 1.45pm has also been cancelled today, with its 8.20am and 10.50am flights operating as planned, according to flight-tracking website Flightradar24.

BA is currently offering a flexible booking policy for customers who have booked services to Dubai and Doha and are due to travel today or tomorrow. Passengers can rebook onto a later flight up to and including 6 July 2025.

Emirates flights to and from the UK to the Middle East continue to operate as normal, The Independent reports.

The FCDO continues to advise against all travel to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and is planning flights to transport British nationals out of the destinations.

Travel Gossip has approached Emirates and Etihad for comment.
