West Yorkshire-based agency Travel Safe has officially ceased trading almost a year after its former owner admitted his homeworking business had failed.
Former Sunvil Operations Manager Brett Gerrett started Travel Safe in August 2020 as a franchisee of Protected Trust Services (PTS).
At one time, he had about 10 homeworkers and was offering a 90/10 commission split with members.
In 2022, he opened a shop in the West Yorkshire town of Horbury with his partner Sophie Davis, who had also worked for Sunvil.
The business had an ATOL for 1,000 passengers, but the Civil Aviation Authority said the company ceased trading as an ATOL holder on 17 September.
Customers with bookings are being advised to contact PTS.
In October 2024, Brett told Travel Gossip he was winding down the homeworking side of the business after PTS advised suppliers not to take further bookings from the group. Brett said his homeworkers had defected to rival groups with ‘much better solutions’.
At the time, he said his store, Travel Safe Horbury was a separate entity and he was considering his options. In January this year, the business was taken over by Sophie Fayle, but she resigned as a director in April and it was subsequently taken over by Kirsty Gillam, who appears at Companies House as the sole director.
A message on the CAA website reads: “The company based in West Yorkshire traded under the names: Travel Safe, Travel Safe Corporate, and Travel Safe Horbury.
“Travel Safe Services Limited operated under a franchise arrangement with Protected Trust Services Limited (PTS). Consumers with forward bookings should contact PTS directly by emailing [email protected].”
A spokesperson for PTS said: “Travel Safe were put on stop with PTS in October 2024.
“Bookings were taken over by us and we now only have two bookings left to travel. All entities of travel safe stopped trading and the shop closed.
“The empty shop was taken over in January 2025 by Adore Holidays and Cruises and they have since been trading very successful in Horbury.
“PTS have no knowledge and had no dealings with a Kirsty Gillam.”
