Brits in Los Angeles are being urged to monitor local media for updates on massive wildfires that have already ripped through several of the city’s suburbs.
In an update to its travel advice, the Foreign Office described the wildfires as ‘fast spreading’.
It said visitors should ‘monitor local media and follow the advice of local authorities’.
Those in need of consular assistance are advised to call +1 310 789 0031 or, from the UK, +44 (0) 20 7008 5000.
There are three wildfires burning, forcing thousands to flee their homes.
The fire in the upscale Pacific Palisades neighbourhood – home to many celebrities – has covered more than 3,000 acres.
A second fire, above the Eaton Canyon, is growing, and a third fire, in the Sylmar suburbs, has sparked a mandatory evacuation order.
A map of the fires and the latest evacuation orders can be accessed here.
Los Angeles Tourism said it is ‘closely monitoring’ the Palisades fire, adding: “The safety and well-being of residents and visitors remain our top priority. We encourage everyone in the affected areas to stay informed.”
Flights to and from Los Angeles International Airport are continuing to operate, but with some delays.
Guy Novik of USAirtours Holidays said: “Fortunately this is a quiet time of year for booking departures and we have no customers currently affected by the LA wildfires.
“We are monitoring the situation as we do have a small number of fly-drive customers departing next month that could be affected, and will be amending those booking itineraries where needed.”
