Three-day French ATC strike called off

French air traffic controllers have called off their three-day strike next week.

The strike had been due to start on the morning of 7 October and continue on 8 and 9 October. It had been expected to disrupt thousands of flights across Europe.

The SNCTA union said it has suspended its strike notice following consultations with the French Civil Aviation Authority, ‘agreements reached’ with management and a pledge by new Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu not to force his austerity budget through Parliament without a vote.

Ryanair had warned it would have to cancel up to 1,800 flights during the three-day period, affecting around 100,000 passengers, but has now confirmed schedules will operate as normal.

Since this story was published, the French PM has resigned.
