Ground handlers are threatening to take industrial action that could disrupt travel to and from major Spanish airports from tomorrow (27 March).
If the walkouts threatened by employees of both Groundforce and the Menzies Group go ahead, they are likely to also impact travel over the Easter holidays.
Employees of Groundforce, which provides ground services at more than 20 Spanish airports, including Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Valencia, Malaga, Seville and in the Balearics and Canaries, are planning an indefinite strike from 27 March, according to Spanish publication OK Diario.
They will walk out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 5am-7am, 11am-5pm and 10pm-12am until an agreement on pay and working conditions is reached.
Some 3,000 employees of the Menzies Group are also planning industrial action, on 28 March and 2-6 April. Workers will strike between 12am and 12pm.
The Menzies Group provides ramp and passenger operations at airports, including Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga, Alicante, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife (South and North).
