The Spanish Government is investigating major holiday rental companies across Spain and the islands, including the Canaries.
Local media has reported that the probe by the Ministry of Social Rights and Consumer Law is focusing on licensed holiday lets that could still be operating illegally via management companies.
Reports say this could include giving the impression to consumers that the properties are owned and managed by individuals, not large companies with potentially hundreds of rentals.
The investigation follows a crackdown in Spain in June on unlicensed holiday lets advertising on platforms such as Airbnb.
