Southampton Airport is urging passengers to leave extra time for their journeys while it installs new security scanners.
It warned there could be some disruption while work contines ‘over the next several months’.
Once the Next Generation Security Checkpoint scanners are in place, passengers will be able to leave electronic devices, such as laptops, in their hand baggage during screening.
The airport said this will ‘significantly’ improve convenience and streamline the security experience.
However, in a statement, it added: “As work continues over the next several months, passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
“Normal security preparation procedures will remain in place while the installation progresses.”
Managing Director Operations said: “The introduction of the next generation scanners not only represents a significant investment by the airport, it represents one of the most significant advancements in airport security.
“It also underscores our commitment to improving the passenger experience and I am excited about the long-term benefits it will deliver. As with any major project there is the possibility of some disruption which is why we are asking passengers to ensure they allow enough time for their journey through the airport.”
