The South Korean Government has declared seven days of national mourning after Sunday’s plane crash that killed 179 people.
Acting President Choi Sang-mok made the announcement hours after the Jeju Air plane crashed on landing.
Flight 2216, from Bangkok, was landing when it skidded off the runway and hit a perimeter wall at Muan International Airport in the southwest of South Korea, just after 9am local time.
All 175 passengers died, along with six crew. Two crew members at the back of the aircraft survived.
Footage shows the aircraft landing without wheels, overshooting the runway and crashing into the airport’s perimeter wall, before bursting into flames.
An investigation is under way.
