Greek authorities ordered the temporary closure of the Acropolis in Athens on Tuesday as temperatures in the capital reached 38C.
The ancient temple was shut from 1pm to 5pm on the orders of the country’s cultural ministry.
It hasn’t yet been announced if the Acropolis will close again today, but the temperature this afternoon is expected to be a little lower, at around 35C
The weather will cool down slightly later this week and over the weekend, but still reach highs of 34C.
The Acropolis, one of Greece’s most popular tourist attractions, also closed on some days in June and July last year due to the heat.
The latest closure coincided with a wildfire in Marseille, southern France, on Tuesday, which grounded all flights, and followed a wildfire in southern Crete last week.
