Ryanair has launched an ‘Big Idiot’ seat sale on the back of a growing dispute with the world’s richest man, Elon Musk.
Elon and Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary have been trading insults over the past week, after Michael said he wouldn’t use Elon’s Starlink technology to provide wi-fi on Ryanair flights.
He said equipment to provide the technology would create extra aeronautical drag that would cost £250 million a year, telling Irish radio station Newstalk that he didn’t think passengers would pay a small charge for wi-fi on an hour-long flight in any case. He added that Elon was ‘an idiot’.
Elon replied to say Ryanair had got its sums wrong, adding that Michael was the idiot and should be fired.
He then asked users of his X social media platform whether they thought he should buy Ryanair. Most said yes.
Ryanair has now launched a Big Idiot Seat Sale to capitalise on publicity about the argument, offering 100,000 seats from £16.99.
The promotion says: “Only available for Elon Musk and any other ‘idiots’ on X!!. Book today before Musk gets one!”
