Ryanair axes flights to Spanish city

Ryanair will not fly from Stansted to Jerez this summer, after announcing it is dropping services from the Spanish airport.

The airline has also cancelled operations from a second airport, Valladolid, and will remove an aircraft from Santiago, cutting capacity there by 28%. Capacity will also be cut 20% from Zaragoza, by 11% from Asturias and by 5% from Santander.

Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson blamed ‘excessive airport charges and lack of workable growth incentives’ at airports run by operator AENA.

“As a result, Ryanair will cease its entire Jerez and Valladolid operations, remove 1 based aircraft from Santiago ($100m investment) and reduce traffic in Vigo, Santiago, Zaragoza, Asturias, and Santander (loss of 800,000 seats) in Summer 2025,” he said.

Ryanair flies to Zaragoza and Asturias from Stansted, and to Santander from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Stansted and Manchester, but has not confirmed whether any of these routes will be affected by the capacity cuts.
